India’s Sixth Semiconductor Unit to Be Set Up in Noida: A Big Boost for UP’s IT Sector

In a historic development for India’s technology manufacturing landscape, the Union Cabinet has approved the country’s sixth semiconductor unit to be set up in Noida, Uttar Pradesh. The facility will be established by HCL Group in partnership with global electronics major Foxconn, with a significant investment of ₹3,700 crore.

Strategic Location: Jewar, Noida

The semiconductor manufacturing facility will be located near Jewar under the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA). The area is already attracting global attention thanks to upcoming infrastructure projects such as the Jewar International Airport, improved expressway connectivity, and the presence of multiple IT and industrial hubs.

What’s the Investment?

The total investment of ₹3,700 crore (approximately USD 445 million) will be directed toward:

• Building a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility
• Installing equipment to manufacture 20,000 wafers/month
• Developing capability for 36 million chip units/month
• Creating employment for over 2,000 highly skilled workers
• Driving innovation in chip production for mobile, auto, and consumer electronics sectors

Union Electronics & IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the HCL-Foxconn facility will begin production by 2027. This project supports Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India) vision by reducing dependence on imported semiconductors and building India’s domestic capacity.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath thanked the Prime Minister and emphasized how the project will accelerate UP’s development into a global electronics and IT manufacturing destination.
