Noida News: The grand Film City being built in Greater Noida is set to be connected to the Jewar International Airport, with the Yamuna Authority working on plans for this crucial project. The plan includes introducing a mono rail system to link both locations.

To enhance connectivity between the upcoming Film City in Greater Noida and the Jewar International Airport, the Yamuna Authority has commenced preparations to launch a special mono rail service. The proposed rail system aims to provide a rapid and cost-effective link between the two destinations, with a travel distance of just 15 kilometers that can be covered in minutes.

Mono Rail Project Overview

The mono rail project will span 14.6 kilometers and connect the Film City in Greater Noida with the Noida International Airport. The company responsible for executing the project has already been chosen, with Siemens selected to prepare the detailed project report (DPR). The DPR is expected to be completed within two months.

What Makes the Mono Rail Special?

The mono rail offers several benefits:

  1. Reduced Traffic and Pollution: The elevated track will help avoid traffic congestion and reduce pollution.
  2. Safety: The rail system will run at an elevated height of about 10 to 15 feet above the ground, reducing the risk of accidents.

Countries such as Japan, China, Germany, and Malaysia have successfully operated mono rail systems, with Tokyo serving as an example where 127,000 people travel daily on the system. India’s first mono rail started in Mumbai in 2014.

The primary goal of the mono rail project is not just to provide connectivity but also to serve as a forward-thinking initiative. It is expected to boost industrial and commercial activities around Greater Noida and Jewar, providing a super-fast network to these areas and the nearby Noida airport. Compared to other rapid transit systems, the mono rail project is expected to be more affordable. According to reports, the estimated cost of building the mono rail system is approximately ₹70 crore per kilometer, significantly lower than the ₹250 crore per kilometer cost of the Namo Bharat rail system. The average speed of the mono rail is expected to range between 65 to 80 kilometers per hour.

Previous Plans and the Shift to Mono Rail

Initially, there were proposals for a Pod Taxi or Light Rail Transit (LRT) system, but both projects faced hurdles. No company came forward to implement the pod taxi idea, while the LRT faced issues due to regulatory restrictions. The LRT was not approved to run on the Namo Bharat track, which is reserved for the Namo Bharat, Rapid Rail, and Metro services. Consequently, the mono rail network was chosen as the solution.

This ambitious project aims to provide better connectivity while supporting the growth of industrial and commercial sectors in the region, creating a faster and more efficient transportation option for both residents and businesses.
