New Route to Link Noida Airport

Govt Proposes New Route Linking Noida Airport to NH-34 for Better Connectivity to Uttarakhand and MP

The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) is planning a transformative infrastructure project aimed at improving connectivity between Noida International Airport in Jewar and National Highway 34 (NH-34). This ambitious initiative is set to enhance accessibility from the airport to key states such as Uttarakhand and Madhya Pradesh, fostering regional development and convenience for travelers.

Proposed Route and Development

YEIDA is collaborating with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to finalize the route alignments. Initial discussions have been promising, with a detailed proposal and feasibility study underway. The project aims to restore the direct connectivity between Jewar and Sikandrabad, previously disrupted due to land acquisition for the airport. The first phase of airport construction involved acquiring 1,334 hectares across six villages, including a 3 km stretch of the Jewar-Sikandrabad road.

An alternative route through Jahangirpur and Jhajhar was constructed to address this disruption. However, it adds several kilometers to the journey and passes through multiple villages, prompting the need for a more efficient solution. Officials are considering a direct link road from the airport to Khurja, where NH-34 passes. The final route will be determined based on the results of the feasibility study and the detailed project report (DPR).

Significance of the New Connection

NH-34 serves as a vital transportation artery connecting cities like Haridwar, Meerut, and Bulandshahr. The highway extends from Gangotri Dham in Uttarakhand to Lakhnadon in Madhya Pradesh, making it a strategic route for interstate travel and commerce. Enhancing connectivity between the airport and NH-34 will:

  • Provide seamless access for passengers from Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, and surrounding districts.
  • Boost regional economic activity by improving transportation efficiency.
  • Enhance the overall infrastructure network, positioning the Noida International Airport as a key hub in India’s transportation ecosystem.

Shailendra Bhatia, Officer on Special Duty at YEIDA, emphasized the project’s importance: “While our initial discussions have been promising, the DPR will determine crucial aspects of the project, like route alignment, budget, and length of the link road.”

Complementary Infrastructure Projects

The NH-34 connection is part of a broader strategy to optimize connectivity around the Noida International Airport. Key developments include:

  • Delhi-Mumbai Expressway Link: A nearly completed 31 km stretch connecting the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway with the airport.
  • Proposed Speedway: UP Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEDA) has proposed a new expressway linking the Ganga Expressway to the airport. This speedway will interface with NH-34 and the Yamuna Expressway, passing through several YEIDA-region villages and connecting with the proposed Film City.

Enhancing Passenger Experience and Regional Growth

Officials are meticulously aligning these projects to avoid overlaps while ensuring comprehensive connectivity. Closing the NH-34 connectivity gap remains a top priority, as it promises to:

  • Improve passenger convenience by reducing travel time and offering direct routes.
  • Drive regional economic growth by enhancing accessibility to industrial hubs and tourism destinations.
  • Support the development of ancillary infrastructure around the airport, including logistics, hospitality, and commercial sectors.

As the feasibility study progresses, stakeholders eagerly anticipate a transformative leap in Uttar Pradesh’s infrastructure landscape, reinforcing the state’s position as a pivotal transportation and economic corridor.
